Gulab Jamun Recipe

BREAD GULAB JAMUN
Cooking time:30 minutes (Soaking time:3-4 hours)                                          Serves:4 




INGREDIENTS:
  1. Bread slices
  2. Milk
  3. Sugar
  4. Chopped nuts (almonds,cashews,raisins,walnut,pistachio)
  5. Cardamom powder 
  6. Oil


METHOD:
  1. Sugar Syrup:
  • In a pan add one and half cup of sugar and one cup of water. Let it come to boil.
  • To the boiling syrup add 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder. Cook for another couple of minutes or until the syrup is thick.
      2. Bread Gulab Jamun:
  • Cut the sides of white bread slices and tear into small pieces.
  • Add little milk to the bread pieces and knead bread and milk for 2-3 minutes to form a dough which is not too soft or too hard.
  • Divide the dough into equal sized small balls. 
  • Take a ball and roll it. Make a well in the center and add chopped nuts and raisins. Close the ball and roll into a smooth round ball making sure there are no cracks on the outer surface.
  • Fry these bread balls in refined oil on medium to low flame until golden brown on all the sides. 
  • Dip the hot bread gulab jamuns into hot sugar syrup and let it soak for 3-4 hours until it has soaked the syrup and has turned soft. Serve hot or cold. 


NOTE:
  1. While making the bread dough add milk little at a time. Make sure the dough is not too soft. 
  2. You can add nuts inside the gulab jamun as per your preference. If you want you can simply make them without any stuffing inside. 
  3. Don't fry the gulab jamuns on high heat. Use low to medium flame making sure all sides are evenly fried.
  4. Soak the hot gulab jamuns in piping hot syrup for 3-4 hours until they are soft and melting in the mouth.
