VEGAN OMELETTE or EGG-LESS OMELETTE
Cooking time: 15 minutes Serves:4
INGREDIENTS:
- Gram Flour / Besan (1 cup)
- Flour (1/2 cup)
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Baking powder (1 teaspoon)
- Chopped onion
- Chopped tomatoes
- Chopped green chilies
- Chopped coriander
- Oil
METHOD:
- In a mixing bowl add 1 cup of gram flour, 1/2 cup of flour, pinch of salt and black pepper powder and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Mix all these dry ingredients.
- Add water in this to make a thin batter of pouring consistency devoid of lumps.
- To this batter add 2 tablespoons of chopped onion, chopped tomatoes and chopped coriander leaves. Add chopped green chilies as per spice preference. Mix the vegetables properly in the batter.
- In a frying pan add 2-3 teaspoons of oil and heat it to medium high.
- Add 2-3 ladle of batter on the pan and cook on medium flame until golden brown on both the sides. This will take around 4-5 minutes.
- Serve this vegan omelet with ketchup or sweet chili sauce. Bon Appetite.
NOTES:
- This is a vegan version of omelette. This recipe is very popular in India and goes by the name Besan Chella. Made from gram flour this dish is usually eaten in combination with curd, is an instant, nutritious, low calorie, protein rich recipe ideal for breakfast and snack time. Cheela can be a part of weight loss diet since it is low in calories and is also a good vegetarian protein source.
- Baking powder gives it a fluffy texture just like omelette.
- Make sure the batter is thin and of poring consistency. Mix it very well to avoid lumps.
- Add veggies as per your choice and availability. You can also add mushrooms, bell peppers etc.
- Fry this omelette on medium flame. Don't be tempted to fry on high flame else it will burn on outside and will be raw the center.
